No. 20 Cardinals Drill Oilers, 3-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The No. 20 Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team defeated the University of Findlay Oilers 3-0 today (Sept. 14) in their 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference home opener.

The Cardinals (4-1-0) scored the first goal of the game when Conor Reaume (Troy, Mich. / Troy HS) found the back of the net off of a penalty kick in the ninth minute of the first half after an Oiler yellow card.  Saginaw Valley continued to control the pace of the game when Lachlan Savage found the first of his two goals for the contest.  The first came off an assist from Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) at the 38 minute mark of the first half.

The Cardinals would enter halftime up by a score of 2-0, out shooting the Oilers 10-3.

Savage would ensure the Cardinals keep their first half momentum as he blasted a ball by the Oiler keeper for his second goal of the afternoon, this time on assists from Reaume and Zach Walega (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS).

Saginaw Valley would go on to win the contest 3-0 over the Oilers.

SVSU senior goalkeeper Jason Wise (Troy, Mich. / Troy HS) earned his fourth win of the season.

The Cardinals will return to action Sunday (Sept. 16) when they host the Dragons of Tiffin University at 2:30 PM at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
