No. 8 Cardinals Fall on the Road to Northwood, 2-0

MIDLAND, Mich. - The No. 8 Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team fell by a score of 2-0 in their first road contest of the 2012 season to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Northwood University today (Sept. 9).

The Timberwolves (1-0-1, 1-0-0 GLIAC) found the back of the net twice in a six minute span to take a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. The Cardinals (3-1-0, 0-1-0 GLIAC) best scoring chance would come off the foot of Zach Walega (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS) in the 46th minute, but would be unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem HS) would lead the Cardinals attack with three shots, while teammates Mitch Reinhart (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Canton HS) and Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) each managed to get off two shots.  Jason Wise (Troy, Mich. / Troy HS) stopped five of the seven shots he faced on goal on the afternoon.

The Cardinals will return to action at home when they host Findlay on Friday (Sept. 14) at 4:30 PM at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
