Cardinals Defeat Malone, 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team defeated Malone University, 2-1 today (Oct. 29) in overtime.

The Pioneers took the 1-0 lead over the Cardinals when they scored at the 22:43 mark of the first half. Saginaw Valley knotted the score at 1-1 when Bryan Winnega (Troy, Mich.) found the back of the net off a pass from Zach Walega (Saline, Mich.) in the box. The second half of play remained scoreless sending the contest into overtime.

The Cardinals claimed the 2-1 victory over Malone when Walega beat the keeper off a pass from Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth HS). Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) saved four of the five shots he faced in the contest.

With the win Saginaw Valley ended their regular season with a 12-3-3 overall record, while Malone falls to 9-8-0 overall on the season. The Cardinals will return to action Thursday (Nov. 3) for the GLIAC tournament. Game time to be announced.
