Saginaw Valley Falls to Northwood, 3-2

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team fell to Northwood University, 3-2 today (Oct. 27) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest. 

The Cardinals took the early lead over the Timberwolves when freshman Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) scored off a pass from Zack Minor (Hartland, Mich.) just five minutes into the contest. Northwood knotted the score at 1-1 when SVSU would deflect a shot into their own net late in the first half of play.

The Timberwolves took their first lead of the game, going up 2-1 over Saginaw Valley when DJ Evans scored on a shot from the right side of the field. The Cardinals would score late in the second half when Zach Walega (Saline, Mich.) found the back of the net tieing the game at 2-2. Northwood scored with just three minutes left in the contest, defeating the Cardinals 3-2. 

With the loss the Cardinals fall to 11-3-3 overall on the season, and 7-3-2 in the GLIAC, while Northwood improves to 8-3-3 overall on the season, and 6-3-3 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Saturday (Oct. 29) when they return home for their final regular season match up against Malone. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
