Saginaw Valley Drills Oilers, 5-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The #22 Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team defeated the University of Findlay, 5-0 today (Oct. 22) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

The Cardinals put themselves on the scoreboard late in the first half of play when freshman Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem HS) scored on a pass from freshman Laurence Patterson (Flint, Mich. / Kearsley HS) taking the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Saginaw Valley took the 2-0 lead over the Oilers when sophomore Zach Walega (Saline, Mich.) scored on a pass from Robert Short (Goodrich, Mich.). The Cardinals extended their lead to 3-0 when Savage scored his team leading seventh goal of the season and second goal of the contest. Saginaw Valley took a 4-0 advantage over Findlay when Tyler Channell (Troy, Mich.) found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich.). The Cardinals scored their final goal of the contest when Zack Cooney (Livonia, Mich.) connected on a pass to Conor Reaume (Troy, Mich.) across the field that would find that back of the net.

The goaltending tandum of Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) and Tyler Yachcik (Grand Blanc, Mich.) combined for the shut out saving two shots on goal.

With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 11-2-3 overall on the season, and 7-2-2 in the GLIAC, while Findlay falls to 3-11-1 overall on the season and 1-8-1 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday (Oct. 27) when they travel to Northwood University. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
