Cardinals Fall to Ohio Dominican, 2-1 in Double Overtime

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team fell to Ohio Dominican, 2-1 today (Oct. 9) in double overtime.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 advantage over the Panthers when sophomore Morley Burns (Rochester, Mich. / Adams HS) scored off a pass from freshman Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich.) at the 15:03 mark of the contest. Ohio Dominican answered back just two minutes later knotting the score at 1-1.

The second half of the game remained scoreless forcing the game into its first overtime.  Saginaw Valley was able to get three shots off, while Ohio Dominican had two in overtime, but neither team scored sending the game into a second overtime. The Panthers scored in the 113th minute of the game on a shot from 40 feet out, going on to a 2-1 victory over the Cardinals.

Both Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem HS) and Neal placed two shots on goal, and goaltender Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) saved four of the six shots on goal he faced for Saginaw Valley.

With the loss the Cardinals fall to 8-2-2 overall on the season, and 4-2-1 in the GLIAC, while Ohio Dominican improves to 5-4-2 overall on the season, and 4-2-2 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 14) when they travel to Lake Erie. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
