Cardinals Down Warriors, 5-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team defeated Rochester College, 5-0 today (Oct. 7).

The Cardinals got off to a quick 1-0 lead over the Warriors when Conor Reaume (Troy, Mich.) scored off a pass from defender Zach Minor (Hartland, Mich.) just 14 minutes into the contest. Junior Robert Short (Goodrich, Mich.) scored an unassisted goal at the 32:10 mark of the contest allowing Saginaw Valley to go up 2-0 over Rochester. The Cardinals scored their final goal of the half when Cedric Daley (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College) found the foot of Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) taking the 3-0 lead into halftime.

Saginaw Valley extended their lead to four when senior Andrew Burgeson (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica Eisenhower) scored off a pass from Laurence Paterson (Flint, Mich./Flint Kearsley HS). The Cardinals took a 5-0 advantage over the Warriors with just 35 seconds left in the game when Dan Vitu (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage HS) found the back of the net off a pass from Tyler Channell (Troy, Mich. / Troy Athens HS).

Junior goaltender Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) secured the win for the Cardinals playing the first half in goal, while the goaltending tandum of Tyler Yachcik (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Pavle Udovicic (Belgrade, Serbia/Sportska Gimnazija) combined to shut out the Warriors in the second half of play.

With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 8-1-2 overall on the season, while Rochester falls to 7-7-0 overall on the season. The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 9) when they take on Ohio Dominican at home. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
