Cardinals Tie Davenport, 1-1 in Double Overtime

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team tied Davenport University 1-1 today (Sept. 25) in double overtime.

The Panthers were the first to get on the scoreboard when they scored with just ten minutes left of play in the first half going up 1-0 over the Cardinals. Davenport would carry the 1-0 lead over Saginaw Valley into halftime.

The Cardinals did not tie the score until freshman Craig Neal (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem HS) with just four minutes left in regulation time. Neither team would be successful in the two overtimes ending the contest with a 1-1 tie.

Junior Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) started in goal for the Cardinals saving four of the five shots the Panthers put on net. Both Tyler Channell (Troy, Mich.) and Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) had three shots, two of which they put on goal for Saginaw Valley.

With the tie the Cardinals move to 5-1-1 overall on the season, while Davenport moves to 1-6-3 overall on the season. Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 30) when they return home to take on Lake Erie for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) competition. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
