Saginaw Valley Drops Home Opener, 1-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season to Northwood, 1-0 today (Sept. 23) in their home opener.

The Timberwolves scored the only goal of the contest just 13 minutes into the first half of play going up 1-0 over the Cardinals. Saginaw Valley was unable to capitalize on any of their two shots on goal in the game. Junior Robert Short (Goodrich, Mich.) had two shots, one of which was on goal for Saginaw Valley.

Junior goaltender Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) suffered his first loss of the season making him 5-1 overall, and 2-1 in the GLIAC. Head coach Cale Wassermann stated, "Its a shame we didn't put one in the back of the net today because besides that we played very well and controlled the game. I'm proud of the boy's effort and we deserved better, we look forward to the rematch in a few weeks."

With the loss the Cardinals fall to 5-1 overall on the season, and 2-1 in the GLIAC, while Northwood improves to 5-0 overall on the season, and 3-0 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Sunday (Sept. 25) when they travel to Davenport. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
