Cardinals Extend Win Streak to Four

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team defeated Tiffin University 1-0 today (Sept. 16) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest. With the win the Cardinals improve to 4-0 overall on the season, and 1-0 in the GLIAC, while Tiffin falls to 3-1-1 overall on the season, and 1-1-1 in the GLIAC.

Saginaw Valley would be unable to capitilize on any of their seven shots in the first half of play sending the game into a 0-0 tie to start the second half. The Cardinals scored the only goal they would need to defeat the Dragons when sophomore Conor Reaume (Troy, Mich.) found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Zach Vasold (Freeland, Mich.).

Junior goaltender Jason Wise (Troy, Mich.) and the Saginaw Valley defense held the Dragon offense to only two shots on goal in the entire 90 minutes of play. Wise recorded his second shutout of the season and is now 4-0 overall on the season.

Head coach Cale Wassermann said, "Going to Tiffin is always a tough game, they are very strong on their home field. It took us 20-30 minutes to make some adjustments to their style and once we got comfortable we really looked good. It was a great team effort and they all worked together to get the shutout. Looking back, no one on the field deserved the goal more than Reaume, he has played great the last two weeks and was all over the field today and got hit hard on some tackles. He battled through it, kept his head, and played well today. We know this is just another step for us as we are already preparing for Sunday's game at Findlay which we know we will need to be really sharp for to get a good result".

Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Sunday (Sept. 18) when they travel to the University of Findlay. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 pm.
