Saginaw Valley Falls to Ohio Dominican, 2-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer teams' unbeaten streak was snapped today (Oct. 10) when they were defeated by Ohio Dominican, 2-0 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match up.

Saginaw valley fell behind 1-0 at the 11:56 mark when Ohio Dominican scored off a rebound. The Cardinals had four shots in the first half but were unable to capitalize on any of them and the Panthers would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.  Ohio Dominican scored early in the second half for the final goal of the contest.  Freshman Zach Walega (Saline, Mich.) had one shot on goal on the day while  senior goaltender Piotr Kazmierczak (Stargard, Poland) faced six shots on goal, saving four of them.

Head coach Cale Wassermann stated, "Today was tough, we are battling a ton of injuries right now and have a lot of players playing out of position. It is hard to play shorthanded like that but that is no excuse for today's performance. We had the opportunity to go to Ohio Dominican and prove a point against a quality team and we did not bring the focus or intensity that the game called for. Ohio Dominican was very confident in the game coming off a huge win against the #5 team in the country and we made it easy for them by constantly turning the ball over. It was very embarrassing to put that kind of performance out there for a big conference game and we will need a much better effort this week in our preparation for our next games".

With the loss the Cardinals fall to 7-4-2 overall on the season, and 3-3-2 in the GLIAC, while Ohio Dominican improves to 9-3-0 overall on the season.  Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 15) when they return home to face Lake Erie.  Game time is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
