Saginaw Valley Defeats Rochester, 1-0

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley men's soccer team defeated Rochester College today (Oct. 8), 1-0 to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games.

The Cardinals scored the only goal of the game with about ten minutes left to give them the 1-0 win over Rochester.  Senior Anthony Palazzolo (Warren, Mich. / De La Salle HS) found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Noah Sawyer (East Lansing, Mich. / Haslett HS).  Senior goaltender Luke Deming (Freeland, Mich. / Freeland HS) posted the win for the contest.

Head coach Cale Wassermann stated after the game, "Today was a true test for us as we battled a tough team who played a very defensive style from the start.  They were determined to get numbers behind the ball which made it difficult to create chances.  We had a lot of guys in new positions while we deal with some injuries and I was happy to see how they responded and played today.  Two seniors stole the show and I was happy to see Palazzolo get the game winner and Deming stepped up in goal and made some huge saves to keep the clean sheet.  Ohio Dominican will be a tough re-match that we look forward to on Sunday".

With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 8-3-2 overall on the season, while Rochester falls to 3-8 overall on the season.  The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 10) when they travel to Ohio Dominican for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.  Game time is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
