MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team fell in their first GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) contest today (Sept. 8) to Northwood University, 2-1.
The Cardinals would fall behind early in the game going down 2-0 when the Timberwolves had to quick back to back goals at the 4:17 and 5:49 marks in the first half. Saginaw Valley tried to battle back as sophomore Robert Short (Goodrich, Mich.) found the foot of sophomore Josh Stenback (Troy, Mich.) at the 34:50 mark in the first half. The goal was not enough as the Cardinals were unable to score in the second half to give Northwood the 2-1 win.
Senior goaltender Piotr Kazmierczak (Stargard, Poland) stopped four shots on goal and is now 1-2 on the season for Saginaw Valley.
With the loss the Cardinals fall to 1-2 overall on the season, and 0-1 in the GLIAC, while Northwood improves to 2-0 overall on the season, and 1-0 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will return to action on Friday (Sept. 10) when they travel home to play Indiana Tech. Game time is scheduled for 4:30pm.
