Saginaw Valley Falls to Southern Indiana in Season Opener, 4-1

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley men's soccer team lost their 2010 season opener, 4-1 to Southern Indiana University today (Sept. 2).

The Cardinals fell to a 2-0 deficit in the first half of the contest, but would try to rally back as they scored one goal at 85:09.  Freshman Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem HS) found the foot of freshman Zach Walega (Saline, Mich.) who found the back of the net for his first career goal for Saginaw Valley to cut the Southern Indiana lead to 3-1.

The goal was not enough as Southern Indiana added one more goal in the final minutes to make the final score 4-1.  Senior Piotr Kazmierczak (Stargard, Poland) started in goal for the Cardinals and had seven saves on the night.

With the loss Saginaw Valley falls to 0-1 overall on the season, while Southern Indiana improves to 1-0 overall on the season.  The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 4) when they travel to Oakland City.  The contest is scheduled to start at noon.
