MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University men’s soccer team tied Northwood University this
afternoon (Sept. 13) 1-1 in their 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference opener.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard first when Ryan Seelhoff
(Owosso, Mich. / Owosso HS) found the back of the net on an
unassisted goal at 21:13. The Saginaw Valley defense and stellar
play of Piotr
Kazmierczak would hold that advantage until the 79th minute
when the Timberwolves finally found the net. The teams would go
scoreless the rest of the way as they played to a 1-1 tie in two
overtimes. Kazmierczak had nine saves on the afternoon.
With the tie the Cardinals are now 1-2-2 overall on the season and
0-0-1 in the GLIAC while Northwood is 3-1-1 overall on the season
and 0-0-1 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will take to the road on
Friday (Sept. 18) to play Tiffin University for their next match.
