UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University men’s soccer team defeated the St. Francis
Cougars 2-1 for their first win of the season, in their 2009 home
opener.
In the first half senior Kevin Fox (Flushing,
Mich. / Flushing HS)got the Cardinals on the board first when he
scored off a pass from junior Anthony Palazzolo
(Warren, Mich. / Western Mich/ Hope) to give Saginaw Valley a 1-0
lead. St. Francis would quickly respond by scoring their only goal
of the game on a penalty kick at the 16:03 mark of the first half.
The score would remain tied at one until Palazzolo found the back
of the net with a header on a pass from senior Ryan Seelhoff
(Owosso, Mich. / Owosso HS) to end the scoring for the game.
With the win Saginaw Valley’s record improves to 1-2-1
overall, while St. Francis falls to 3-2-1 overall. The Cardinals
will be back in action when they travel to take on Northwood
University September 13 at 2:30pm.
