Mens Soccer Loses Physical Match to Findlay

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – After a physical game in which three yellow cards were issued in the first half for roughing, SVSU’s mens soccer team lost a tough game to GLIAC foe Findlay University Sunday (Sept. 21) afternoon at the SVSU Soccer Complex.

SVSU senior Brent Walker (Owosso, Mich./ Owosso HS) was issued a yellow card for rough play as he got tangled with Oiler defensemen Joey Gogolin at the 35 minute mark in the first half. SVSU senior Paul Gracyk (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay HS) received the game’s third caution for rough play at the 40 minute mark.

At the end of the first half, the score was tied 0-0 with SVSU outshooting Findlay 11-7.

After Findlay scored at the 55 minute mark in the second half, it didn’t take the Cardinals long to respond as just more than five minutes later, Larry Ferreira (London, Ont./Regina Mundi College) broke free and pounded a shot passed Oiler freshman goalkeeper Kevin Misteravich.

That score stood until the 64 minute mark when Oiler’s sophomore Brennan Williams netted the final goal of the match.

In the second half, the Cardinals were able to rip 13 shots on goal, and generate some scoring opportunities off five corner kicks and two shots that bounced off the goal posts.

With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 2-4 overall, and 0-2 in the GLIAC, as they gear up for their next match against Seton Hall at 4 p.m. Friday (Sept. 26) in Greensburg, Pa.
