ASHLAND, Ohio — The Saginaw Valley State
University men’s soccer team lost 3-1 to Ashland University
on Sunday.
During the first half, the Cardinal defense was tested regularly
as the Ashland offense was able to rip eight shots at sophomore
goalkeeper Luke Deming (Thomas Township, Mich./Freeland HS) during
the first 45 minutes. The Cardinals were only able to get off three
shots in the first half as SVSU went into the halftime break down
2-0.
During the second half, the Cardinals were able to match offense
with the Eagles’ as both teams got off seven shots. SVSU was
able to connect on one of those shots, as senior Brent Walker
(Owosso, Mich./Owosso HS) found the back of the goal at the
87-minute mark. Senior defender Daniel Wragg (Kirton Lindsey,
England/Delta College) got the assist.
Between the posts, Deming was able to turn away six of the 10
shots he faced during the 90 minute contest.
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 2-5-1 overall, and 0-3 in the
GLIAC as they prepare for their next match against Indianapolis
University at 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 4) at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
