ASHLAND, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State
University men’s soccer team couldn’t overcome losing
two of their top players to pull out a victory in the GLIAC Finals
against Tiffin University today (Nov. 8). The Cardinals lost the
match 4-2.
In SVSU’s win against top-seeded Ashland University on
Thursday (Nov. 6), senior Brent Walker (Owosso, Mich./Owosso HS)
received his fifth yellow card of the season, and senior Daniel
Wragg (Kirton Lindsey, England/Delta College) received two yellow
cards, so neither could play in the championship match.
In the first half, the Cardinals went down 2-0 before Brock
Humphries (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) got the offense
going for SVSU at the 28:59 mark. But, the Dragons would answer
less than five minutes later to take a 3-1 lead into half time.
As the the second half got underway, Tiffin struck first again to
go up 4-1 at the 55 minute mark. Junior Vinny Vasilevski (Shelby,
Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) would bring the Cardinals within two
but couldn’t capitalize again as Tiffin went on to win the
championship 4-2.
The Cardinals round out the season with an 8-10-2 record overall.
