Men’s Golf Sitting in Fifth After Day One of GLIAC Championships

AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf program started their three-day competition at the GLIAC Championships Friday morning. The Cardinals played 18 holes at Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta, Michigan and sit in fifth out of nine teams with a round of 301.

Remy Stalcup and Shea Harmeson are tied for 14th out of 45 competitors as they both shot 74 in the first round. Ethan Swenson follows them with a round of 76 which ties him for 23rd. Thomas Keyte finished even on the back-nine to have a round of 77. Joey Per rounds out the team as he shot 79 on day one.

The Cardinals were fourth best on par fours and fifth best on par fives shooting eleven over on par fours and one under on par fives. SVSU sits in third for most pars out of the nine teams with 54. They are six behind Grand Valley for the lead with 60. Stalcup is tied for second on par threes shooting even through the first round. Swenson is even on par fours which ties him for third best overall. Harmeson and Keyte are both tied for second shooting one under on par fives. Per is tied for third with 12 pars while Swenson, Harmeson, and Stalcup all sit tied for fourth with 11 each.

Men's golf has two more rounds from Stoatin Brae Golf Club as the GLIAC Championships continue stroke play on Saturday, April 13.
