Men’s Golf Takes Second in Sea Trail Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf program took second of nine teams in their first competition of the spring. The Cardinals finished with a total score of 583, just five behind the leader in the Ohio Dominican Spring Break Invitational at Sea Trail Golf Resort on Thursday and Friday.

SVSU golf was led by Shea Harmeson who tied for second best overall with a 142. Harmeson shot 74 and 68 over his two rounds. Nicholas Taylor posted a 77 on the first day and followed up with the best round by a Cardinal golfer with a 67 on day two to finish sixth overall with a 144. Ethan Swenson tied for eighth with two rounds of 73 for a total of 146. Remy Stalcup shot 82 in the first round and cut his score by eight on round two for a 74 and a total of 156. Joey Per shot 77 and 80 for a total of 157 with Jiseung Choi rounding out the team with two rounds of 81 for a total of 162. Thomas Keyte played as an individual and shot 74 and 79 for a total of 153.

Saginaw Valley tied for most pars with 122 over the two days. The Cardinals also were third best on par fours as they averaged 4.27 and par fives averaging 4.77. Only 0.07 and 0.04 off the leaders. As a team, SVSU shot -11 on par fives. Individually, Harmeson was second best on par fours shooting -2 with an average of 3.90 and was also tied for the most pars with 26. Taylor posted the best par fives for the Cardinals and was tied for second best overall with a total of -6 and an average of 4.25. He also was tied for third with the most birdies with nine. Per was the lone Cardinal and one of the nine to sink an eagle.

Saginaw Valley men's golf gets back on the course with the SVSU Spring Break Invite next weekend. The tournament is held at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Kentucky and will take place on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17.
