Cardinal Men’s Golf Takes Sixth in Final Fall Competition

OWESBORO, Ky. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf program wrapped up their fall competition at the Kentucky Wesleyan Fall Invitational. The team took sixth out of 16 teams in the two-day tournament at The Pearl Club golf course.

Five SVSU golfers made the trip in a team comprised of Remy Stalcup, Ethan Swenson, Shea Harmeson, Joey Per, and Jiseung Choi. The team shot 591 with rounds of 295 and 296. Stalcup led the way with a 74 and 73 shooting 147 overall. He was tied for 14th out of all 88 golfers. Swenson was just a shot behind with rounds of 78 and 70. His second round was the best by any Saginaw Valley golfer. Harmeson shot 149 with rounds of 71 and 78 with Per one stroke behind with rounds of 74 and 76. Choi rounded out the team with a 76 and a 77 for a 153 overall score.

SVSU was one of the better teams on par threes as they averaged 3.38 and were third overall. The Cardinals also were tied for the most eagles with two, coming from Per and Swenson. They also had the second most pars with 113, just four behind Ferris State in first. Stalcup tied for first in pars with 27 with Swenson right behind him with 26. Swenson also tied for second with nine birdies.

The weekend in Kentucky finalizes the five fall competitions for men's golf. The sixth place finish his tied for their highest as they placed sixth of nine in the Davenport Invitational. The program will continue competition in the spring of 2024.
