CHICAGO - The SVSU men's golf team competed on the opening day of the 2015 NCAA Division II Fall Midwest Regional Tournament, held at the Harborside International Golf Center in Chicago, Illinois.
The Cardinals shot an opening round of 303 and sit in a tie for 21st place with William Jewell College, two strokes behind Davis and Elkins. Trevecca Nazarene is leading after round one after shooting a team score of 283.
With both the Port and Starboard courses being utilized for the tournament, the Cardinals played the Starboard course in Monday's opening round that measured out at 6,928 yards on the par-72 layout. The Starboard seemed as though it was the tougher course on day one and SVSU was the seventh-best team on that track Monday.
With perfect weather conditions, 26 players shot under par on the day. One of those was SVSU's Ryan Peruski, who carded an opening round score of 71 (-1) to sit in a tie for 17th place overall.
Steven Kish fired a 76 (+4) while competing in his first collegiate event and he is in a tie for 78th place after the first 18 holes of play. Mason Motte and Dustin Pumford each had six-over par rounds of 78 to finish the scoring for Saginaw Valley. Alexander Dice also competed for SV, posting a first round score of 81.
The Cardinals will tee-off on the Port Course at 9:50 a.m. central time on the second day of the tournament.
