Cardinals Tied for Third After First Round of NMU Invitational

MARQUETTE - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team opened play for the 2015 season on Saturday at the Northern Michigan Invitational, played at the Greywalls Golf Course. 

The Cardinals shot an opening round of 313 and sit in a tie for third place with Wayne State. Ferris State leads after an opening round of 304, three strokes ahead of host Northern Michigan (304). Grand Valley State (314) and Lake Superior State (315) rounded out the scores for the teams.

Sophomore Ryan Peruski fired an opening round 74 for SVSU. He was followed by sophomore transfer Mason Motte, who shot a 75 on the day. Junior Tommy Prato had an 81 while sophomore Luke Nesbitt (83) and junior Michael Hansen (84) rounded out the scoring for the Cards. 

Dustin Pumford shot a 79 playing as an individual and Nico Colucci had an 88 competing as an individual as well.

The teams will resume play on Sunday with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.
