UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State senior Tre Garrett improved his career-best point total by one point with a 32-point performance and broke 1,000 career points to lead the Cardinals (11-7, 4-5 GLIAC) past No. 13 Ferris State, 99-89, on Saturday afternoon. The win snaps a 13-game losing streak to the Bulldogs (16-4, 6-3 GLIAC) and improves SVSU to 4-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Along with his new career high, Garrett recorded back-to-back 30-point games for the first time in his career. The Saginaw, Michigan native set career highs in free throws made (17) and attempted (24). Toodles Seal finished with 26 points after going 6-9 from beyond the arc. Both his three-point makes and attempts were a career-high. Seal's 26 points were just three points from his career-high in that category that he set earlier this season. He added seven rebounds to his stat line as well. Freddie McIntosh was the third in a trio of SVSU players to score 20+ points in the game after shooting 7-18 from the floor for 20 points. The junior guard led the team in assists with five and hauled in three rebounds. Dylan West recorded nine rebounds, five of which were on the offensive side of the ball.

The Cardinals used a 9-0 run early in the first half and led the rest of the way through regulation. Garrett made a free throw at 15:28 of the first to give the game its first double-digit deficit (15-5). An 8-0 run by Ferris State cut the deficit to three points, 26-23, with 8:17 left before the halfway mark. Seal responded with a three-point jumper that sparked a 6-0 run and pushed the lead to nine points with 6:47 on the clock. The advantage extended to 17 points in the final five minutes and grew to 22 points at the break (57-35).

Saginaw Valley State used a 6-1 run to widen the gap to its furthest point, 63-36. FSU battled back to cut the margin to eight points in the final two minutes. However, the Cardinals held on despite not making a field goal for the final 1:50 of play.

Two road games await SVSU next week as the Cardinals visit Purdue Northwest on Thursday, February 1 for a 7:00 p.m., EST, tip. A trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin to finish the season series against Parkside follows on Saturday, February 3. That game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m., EST.
