Tre Garrett Tallies Double-Double to Lead Cardinals to Fifth-Straight Win

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University senior guard Tre Garrett totaled his first double-double of the season with 20 points and matched his career high of 12 rebounds to lead the team to a 91-59 victory over Alma on Friday night.

The Cardinals (5-2) took a quick 7-0 lead in the opening in the opening two minutes of the game and never looked back. Ethan Hill hit the game's first bucket with a jumper from Dylan West that ignited the SVSU hot start. Hill tallied 14 points, four assists, and four rebounds on the night. West tallied eight points and six rebounds.

Saginaw Valley took the early advantage and built a 27-point lead (42-15) with 4:04 remaining before halftime. The Cardinals would maintain the deficit with a 44-23 edge at the break. Garrett scored 11 of his 20 points in the first half.

The second period was much the same, as Garrett scored another nine points including seven free throws. He would end the night going 11-11 from the charity stripe. Toodles Seal scored nine of his 16 points in the final 20 minutes. Freddie McIntosh was the fourth double-digit scorer for SVSU as he finished with 10 points on 4-7 shooting from the floor. Curtis Jackson finished just short of a double-double with nine assists and eight rebounds.

The Cardinals will begin conference play with a trip to the Upper Peninsula to face Michigan Tech on Thursday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. The game against the Huskies is followed by a matchup with the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Saturday, December 9 at 1:00 p.m.
