Cardinals Outpaced at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University, men's basketball team, was defeated on the road inside Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena on Saturday afternoon. Junior Tre Garrett was the Cardinals' leading scorer with 13 points and four rebounds in the losing effort.

Sophomore Freddie McIntosh tallied 11 points and added two rebounds, two assists, and a steal on the day. Freshman Ethan Hill led SVSU with five rebounds and two steals. Hill also added eight points. Junior Maurice Barnett contributed nine points off the bench for Saginaw Valley State.

Tre Garrett had a big first half, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the opening 20-minute period. The Chargers began the game with an 11-0 run and never trailed on the way to the 93-62 decision. SVSU continued to fight with a 6-0 run in response as the margin was cut to five points at the 13:00 minute mark. The lead moved back to double digits as the first half moved to the halfway mark and stayed there as the teams entered the locker room at the half.

Despite the final result, the Cardinals competed as they hauled in 31 rebounds as a team and outscored Hillsdale in the paint and bench points.

The SVSU men's basketball team will return home to face Great Lakes Christian on Tuesday night (Nov. 29). That game is set for an 8:00 PM start time.
