SVSU Men drop matchup to league-leading Davenport, 75-68

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Hosting the GLIAC-leading Davenport University Panthers, the SVSU Men's Basketball team got 27 points from Darnell Hoskins Jr. and a double-double from Myles Belyeu but it wasn't enough in a 75-68 defeat at O'Neill Arena.

Saginaw Valley falls to 8-17 overall on the 2018-19 season and 4-13 in the GLIAC while Davenport improves to 22-3 and 14-3 in league play.

The Panthers never trailed in the game and led by as many as 11 points (29-18) at the 5:02 marker of the first half. The visitors carried a four point lead into the locker room at the half, 33-29.

The Cards knotted the game at 35-35 but the visitors eventually worked their way back out to an 11-point lead of 65-54 with 4:50 to play in the game.

Seven straight points from Hoskins trimmed the DU lead to just three points at 71-68 but only 20 ticks remained on the game clock.

With SVSU forced to foul, Davenport would convert on late foul shots and eventually take the game by the 75-68 final score.
