This is “My Story” with Kalen Foreman - from Randy Baruth

To the Foreman Family, current and former SVSU players and coaches, and the SVSU community:

I am sorry this has taken so long to get a message to you about the impact of Kalen Foreman. In all honesty, moments like this leave you speechless, and sometimes silence gives someone like Kalen the greatest respect of all, because words do not do justice.

Big Daddy Weave is a Christian singer who has a song titled "My Story". Well, in a few short statements I will attempt to give you "My Story" on Kalen Foreman.

Kalen was the first recruit to say yes to us. He believed in our program before we even had our staff together. Kalen did not hesitate with the message we were selling and the vision we were showing, but came in to our program with the normal priorities of any student-athlete and that is: athlete-student.

Soon, Kalen realized that the key to doing great things in your life was education, and not basketball. Basketball is what he did, but not who he was. Once Kalen gained the confidence that he could handle the challenge of college courses and found a study partner in his lifelong friend, Damon Bozeman, the sky was the limit. Kalen soon graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science.

His growth continued both on and off the court. Like all competitive people, he worked for more playing time, but also was the ultimate team player. He was a leader and a mentor to our younger players, and ultimately led them all the way to an Elite 8.

Once his basketball time was over, Kalen jumped at the chance to get his Master's Degree. But boy, one was not enough- he got a double Master's. While accomplishing this, Kalen was an Assistant Coach for us, mentoring every young man coming through our program. You never had to question what he was talking to guys about. He was usually 2-3 steps ahead of me; knowing what challenges guys were going to have, when they were going to have them and what time of season they were going to come.

As you can see, to put together a short statement is not possible. Kalen was a student, mentor, teammate, friend, and educator. In this world you are lucky to get to be in the presence of a person like Kalen Foreman… I was lucky enough to get 6 years.

This is "My Story" with Kalen Foreman.
