Wells, Hoskins Earn 2017-18 All-GLIAC Accolades

GLIAC -- Senior guard Mike Wells Jr. and freshman guard DJ Hoskins brought home some postseason accolades for the Cardinals after the conclusion of the 2017-18 season. Wells earned All-GLIAC First Team honors as the guard position while Hoskins was named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team in his debut campaign. 

Wells took his game to another level in his final season wearing an SVSU uniform. The senior led the way with 15.8 points per game, including 17.8 in league contests. He added 3.1 assists per game and 2.6 rebounds per contest. Mike ranks seventh in the league in scoring and sixth in total points scored (459). He ranks seventh in assists (89) as well. Wells scored 20-plus points nine times this season while starting all 29 games. His career-high of 44 points came in a Feb. 8 home overtime victory over Michigan Tech, 105-94. He also had 35 points on Jan. 18 at home versus Ashland. Wells played in a team-high 32.7 minutes per game. 

Hoskins had a breakout freshman season for the Cards, ranking second on the team with his 11.2 ppg. He averaged 31.3 minutes per game on the floor while starting in 18 of 27 games played. DJ led the team with 1.9 steals per game, a figure that ranks fourth in the GLIAC as well. Hoskins reached double figures in scoring 17 times and had a career-high 22 points in a home game versus Wayne State on Feb. 15. 

Saginaw Valley finished the 2017-18 season with a 12-17 overall record and qualified for the GLIAC Tournament for the third time in the past four seasons.
