SVSU Men drop league matchup at Grand Valley, 81-66

ALLENDALE -- The SVSU Men's Basketball team fell on the road at Grand Valley State on Saturday (Jan. 6) afternoon by a final score of 81-66.

The Lakers carried a 38-28 margin into the halftime break before outscoring SVSU by a narrow 43-38 margin in the final 20 minutes of play for the 81-66 final. 

The Cardinals had three players score in double figures, led by Mike Wells Jr.'s 19 points. DJ Hoskins added 14 points with four steals and an assist while Fred John Jr. posted 10 points with six boards. 

Inside the Boxscore

  • James Toohey was named the Meijer "Player of the Game" after his seven points, career-high nine rebounds and two assists. 
  • The Lakers went 51.8% from the field while the Cardinals shot 34.5%. 
  • GVSU grabbed a 46-31 advantage in rebounds and posted a 39-21 edge in bench points. 
  • SVSU had 12 points in the paint while GV scored 34.
