Cardinal men host pair of ranked opponents this weekend

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- After an opening weekend of GLIAC play on the road, the Cardinals are back in action at James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena for Thursday / Saturday league action. SVSU hosts No. 24 Lake Superior State University on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. before hosting the No. 5 team in the country in Ferris State University on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

- The Lakers lead the all-time series, 59-42. The Cardinals claimed victory in both meetings last year and have won four straight in the series and six of the past seven. The lone LSSU victory in that stretch came in the 2017 GLIAC Tournament Semifinals.

- The Bulldogs lead the all-time series, 58-40. Ferris State won both meetings last season while SVSU claimed all three the previous year. The final meeting in 2015-16 was decided by just two points and was the Midwest Regional Championship contest, advancing the Cardinals to the Elite Eight.

CARDINALS LAST WEEK

The Cardinals went 0-2 this past weekend on their annual trip the the upper peninsula, falling to Michigan Tech on Thursday night, 75-67 before dropping an 86-69 matchup at Northern Michigan on Saturday morning.

Against Tech, Sebastiano Lamonato had a career-high 16 points and added six boards. Jake Daniels added 11 points and matched a career-high with five rebounds. Malik Garner had 11 points, five boards and five assists. Jeremy Pung matched his career-high with nine points as well.

In the Northern game, the Wildcats out-rebounded SVSU by a 43-30 margin. DJ Hoskins led the way offensively, scoring 14 points with five rebounds. Mike Wells Jr. added 11 points while Liam Evans had his first double-digit scoring effort with 10 points in the contest.
