UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Playing in their second straight home game at O'Neill Arena, the SVSU men's basketball team hostd the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots in a regional matchup against the opponent from the GMAC. The Cardinals got off to a quick start, posting a 46-20 halftime edge and cruising to a 41-point victory over OVU, 94-53.

Ohio Valley scored first and led for their only time when the score was 3-0. SVSU bounced-back from that and scored the next nine points, leading 9-3 after a three-pointer from Jake Daniels at the 14:53 mark. The Cardinals would push the lead out further and use a 7-0 run to make the count 20-7 with 9:15 showing on the clock. Five of those points came from Wade Gelhaus and the other pair from Devin Dixon. A Dixon tip-in with 3:17 remaining in the half pushed the lead over 20 points at 36-15 and the home squad would carry a 46-20 lead into the half.

Saginaw Valley opened the second half with an 11-0 run, increasing the lead to 57-20 after Malik Garner made a jumper to cap the run. The Cardinals would have no issues the rest of the way, finishing-off a 48-33 second half to secure the 41-point win over the Fighting Scots, 94-53.

Inside the Boxscore

  • Dixon posted a double-double in the game, scoring 10 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. The 12 boards also mark a career-high for the junior.
  • Garrett Hall had a game-high 22 points with three boards, an assist and steal for the Cardinals.
  • Gelhaus had a season-high 15 points, adding eight rebounds. He was named the Meijer Player of the Game.
  • Garner also reached double-digits in scoring, posting 10 points for the home side. He added a game-high four assists and two boards.
  • Caleb Davis added nine points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal while C.J. Turnage netted eight points, seven boards and an assist.
  • The Cardinals posted a 47-41 edge on the glass and had 18 points off of 16 Ohio Valley Turnovers. SV committed just seven turnovers.
  • SVSU also led in fastbreak points (18-6) and bench points (33-5).

The Cardinals will play their third straight home game Tuesday (Nov. 22) in a matchup with Grace Bible College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in O'Neill Arena.
