C.J. Turnage Named GLIAC "Freshman of the Year"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball player C.J. Turnage has been selected by the head coaches of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as the league's "Freshman of the Year."

Turnage had a breakout freshman campaign for the Cardinals in 2013-14.  The 6-5 forward led the team with 16.9 points per game in 22 games played, posting a GLIAC-best field goal percentage of 64.2%.  His points-per-game average ranked ninth in the league and is the most for the SVSU men since the 2008-09 season.  C.J. grabbed 5.5 rebounds per contest as well, which led the Cards for the season.  Turnage turned in eight 20-plus point performances, including a career-high 27 points in games at Northern Michigan (2/13) and at home versus Northwood (2/27).

C.J. will lead a talented group of young players returning for the Cardinals in the 2014-15 season.  Every player but one will be coming back for SVSU.
