Men's Basketball Moves To 2-0 With 76-44 Win Over Alma

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University basketball team moved to 2-0 for the 2013-14 campaign with a 76-44 home victory over the Alma College Scots on Monday night (Nov. 11).

The Cardinals led wire-to-wire in the contest, with their largest lead of the first half coming right before the break when junior forward Kalen Foreman threw down a two-handed dunk off a pass from freshman forward C.J. Turnage.

That lead was 21 points, as SVSU went into halftime up 40-19.

Saginaw Valley out-rebounded the Scots by a 26-12 margin in the opening 20 minutes of play and didn't give up a single offensive rebound in the half.

The Cards went on a 13-0 run to take the lead from 42-21 to 55-21, ending on a jumper from freshman guard Garrett Hall at the 14:05 mark.

SVSU would hold-off the Scots after a mini run they put together and closed-out for the 32 point victory, 76-44.

With the victory, with Cardinals improve to 2-0 overall while Alma falls to 0-1 on the young season.

Foreman was selected as the Meijer "Player of the Game" after posting game-highs of 12 points and seven rebounds.

Sophomore guard Damon Bozeman had 11 points and five rebounds while Turnage also scored 11 and added four assists and a pair of rebounds.

Sophomore guard Kellen Smith had six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Freshman Jon Marosi knocked down both shots he took in the game, going 2-for-2 on three point attempts to finish with six points.

Saginaw doubled-up Alma in the rebounds category, out-working the Scots on the glass by a 50-25 advantage.

The Cardinals are off until Friday, November 22nd, when they host Spring Arbor University in a 7:00 pm home contest at O'Neill Arena.
