Cardinals Fall to Grand Valley, 82-60

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team fell to Grand Valley State University today (Jan. 6) 82-60 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) match-up.

The Cardinals found themselves down by eight points with 15:05 remaining in the first half, however would cut into the Laker lead with just under two minutes left when senior Keithan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Godwin Heights HS) and sophomore Michael Fugate (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) would both sink jumpshots followed by a Jackson three-pointer to bring Saginaw Valley within three.  SVSU entered the locker room trailing at the half, 44-32.

Saginaw Valley trailed by 15 points at the early in the second half, but would bring the would cut lead to seven when senior Dan Genther (Laingsburg, Mich./Laingsburg HS) connected on a three-point shot, however the Lakers would take control of the game from there and defeat the Cardinals, 82-60.

Junior guard Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind./T.C. Howe HS) earned Meijer "Player of the Game" recognition on his first game back from injury, leading the game in scoring with 21 points while adding six rebounds and six assists.  Genther would end the night with 13 points while senior Adam Roberts (Adrian, Mich./Madison HS) led the Cardinals in rebounding with eight and added seven points on the night.

With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 4-7 overall on the season and 0-5 in the GLIAC while Grand Valley moves to 11-2 overall on the season and remain undefeated, 6-0 in conference play.  The Cardinals will return to action this Saturday (Jan. 8) as they host Ferris State University in a GLIAC match-up.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
