Cardinals Victorious Over Rochester College, 68-62

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team picked up their second victory of the 2010-11 season with a 68-62 victory over Rochester College today (Nov. 20).  With the win, the Cardinals move to 2-0 overall on the season, while Rochester College falls to 6-3 overall on the season.

Saginaw Valley came out strong in the first half, taking an early five-point lead over the Warriors at the 16:32 mark.  With under ten minutes remaining in the first half of action, the Cardinals would take a 13-point lead as senior center Adam Roberts (Adrian, Mich./Madison HS) found an open hoop for a dunk. Saginaw Valley would enter the locker room with a seven point lead, 32-25.  Roberts ended the night with six points, five rebounds and two steals.

Rochester College kept the second half interesting as they came within one point of the Cardinals on a successful three-point shot by Warrior Michael Grahm.  Saginaw Valley would begin to increase their lead as Meijer "Player of the Game" Michael Fugate (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) connected on three-of-four free-throws within one minute of action.  The Cardinals scored their final seven points from the free-throw line to seal the victory, 68-62.

Fugate would end the game with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals while junior guard Sean Romsek (Fowlerville, Mich./Fowlerville HS) added a team-high 14 points and posted two rebounds. Senior forward Dan Genther (Laingsburg, Mich./Laingsburg HS) finished the night with 12 points and one rebound.

The Cardinals will return to action this week (Nov. 26) as they travel to take on Mary College in the Florida Southern Thanksgiving Classic.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 PM.
