UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University
men's basketball claimed its second win of the season with a 74-59
win over Rochester College today (Nov. 18).
The Cardinals started off slow but would come back from a
ten-point deficit to take the lead 28-24 going into the locker room
at half time. Sophomore Greg Foster
(Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe HS) led Saginaw Valley with nine
points and one rebound, while Meijer player of the game Keithan Jackson
(Grand Rapids, Mich. / Godwin Heights HS) had eight points and
pulled down 10 rebounds, six off the offensive glass.
Saginaw Valley continued to build on their lead in the second
half, going up by as many as 19 with a minute left in the
game. Senior Avery Stephenson
(Romulus, Mich.) had 13 points and grabbed three rebounds,
while Foster had 11 points and pulled down two rebounds in the
half. Jackson added nine points and eight
rebounds. The Cardinals shot 4-for-6 from beyond the arch and
6-for-9 from the free throw line in the second half.
Foster ended the night with 20 points and three rebounds, while
Stephenson had 15 points and six rebounds, and Jackson had 17
points and led all rebounders with 18. The Cardinals scored
22 points off of 15 Rochester turnovers.
With the win Saginaw Valley improves to 2-0 overall on the season,
while Rochester falls to 6-3 overall on the season. The
Cardinals will be back in action on Monday (Nov. 23) when they will
host Olivet. Tip off is at 7:00pm.
