Football Completes Spring Game

UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH. – The Saginaw Valley State University football team hosted the 2024 Red Feather Classic Spring Game inside the SVSU Fieldhouse on Friday evening. The Red Team (offense) shined during the contest scoring four touchdowns during the 60-minute affair.

Quarterback Mason McKenzie had a good afternoon as he made plays with his arm and his feet. His day began with a 20-yard pass to Arron Foulkes. McKenzie threw a 35-yard pass to Kennedy Anthony that set up a four-yard touchdown run by Terrance Brown for the first score of the day.

The Blue Team (defense) got on the board with a sack by Brady Devereaux that turned the ball over on downs. The defense put up more points when they forced a three-and-out when Adom DeLuc pressured McKenzie and forced him to throw the ball away.

Quarterback Nick Patterson recorded a 20-yard touchdown pass to Landon Kincaid. Patterson also recorded a 50-yard touchdown bomb to Foulkes for his second TD pass of the game. Patterson also made two long rushing plays for his feet that totaled over 20 yards each.

McKenzie made a 35-yard pass play to Foulkes that set up the fourth Cardinal touchdown on a three-yard run by Cordell Mabins Jr.

Micah Cretsinger, Kadyn Warner, Daniel Mason, and Devereaux all contributed sacks on either third or fourth down to help the defensive effort. Joe Waller, Jaden Bevier, Jasper Beeler, Kameron Davenport, and Elijah Gordon all made plays in coverage for the Cardinal defense that registered three turnovers on downs during the game.

Newcomer Israel Bradford got some carries on the offensive side of the ball. Kicker Max Taylor was a perfect 4-4 in extra-point attempts. He also made his only field goal try from 36 yards out.

The Cardinal's first home game will take place in week three on Saturday, September 21 in the Annual Red Feather Classic. This year's opponent for that game is Truman State.
