BAY CITY -- SVSU redshirt freshman Donnell Alexander has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week following the Cardinals' 33-0 shutout victory at home over Davenport University on Saturday afternoon.
Alexander returned an interception for a touchdown in SVSU's 33-0 home shutout over Davenport University on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals allowed just 44 yards of total offense in the victory, which was their second shutout of the season. Alexander added a pair of tackles in the contest as well for the Cardinals.
The 44 yards of total offense allowed by Saginaw Valley marks a new program record. It is the first time since the 1998 season that the SVSU defense has posted multiple shutouts in the same season, with the team also registering a 28-0 victory over Walsh University on Sep. 9.
