DETROIT, Mich. - The SVSU football team traveled to Detroit to face the no. 22-ranked Wayne State Warriors on Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon at WSU's Tom Adams Field. Despite leading 7-6 after the opening quarter, the Cardinals were outscored 36-7 the rest of the way and dropped the GLIAC North Division matchup by a final score of 42-14. 

The Warriors got on the board first at the 7:20 mark of the first on a 4-yard touchdown run, putting the home team up 6-0 after the Cardinals blocked the extra-point. 

Saginaw Valley scored its first touchdown of the contest with 1:49 left in the first, as Ryan Conklin connected with Max Corcoran from 12 yards out to give the visitors the 7-6 advantage.

After Wayne State scored 10 points off another TD and field goal, Conklin and Corcoran hooked up once more with 3:17 left in the first half, finishing off a five play, 75-yard drive with a scoring pass from 19 yards out. An Alex Kenrick PAT would cut the deficit to 16-14.

The Warriors would add another TD to close out the half and carry a 22-14 lead into the halftime break.

WSU continued the control the game in the second half, scoring three more touchdowns and holding Saginaw Valley scoreless the rest of the way to close out for the 42-14 win.

• Wayne State owned the time of possession category, chewing up 43:08 of the clock while SVSU had the ball for 16:52.
• The Warriors held a 390-166 edge in total offense as well.
• Corcoran had five catches for 54 yards and the career-high pair of touchdowns in the game. He earned Meijer "Player of the Game" honors.
• Conklin was 12-of-27 through the air for 136 yards and the two scores with an interception. It was his first-ever multiple TD pass game in an SVSU uniform.
• Tyler Marcus was solid in the punting game, averaging 43.5 yards on four kicks, putting two balls inside the 20 with one touchback.
• Dillon Dixon led defensively with 13 tackles and a tackle-for-loss. 
• Bryan Jones added 12 stops while Matt McKoy posted 11 for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals return home to Wickes Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 29) for a home game against the Lake Erie Storm. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m. on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University.
