Stanford Named To Capital One Academic All-America Division II Football Team

TOWSON, Md. - Saginaw Valley State University junior kicker Scott Stanford (Novi, Mich./Novi HS) has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II Football Team.

Stanford, who carries a 3.79 cumulative GPA as an Accounting major, had an outstanding season for the Cardinals.  Scott kicked 11 field goals in 2013, with a long of 51 yards.  He drilled a 51 yarder in the team's homecoming victory over Northwood and made good on a 50 yarder in the team's final home contest of the season against Northern Michigan.  Stanford added a school-record 58 made extra points to total 91 points for the Cardinals.  The junior was also a great weapon in the kickoff game, as he posted 45 touchbacks out of 83 total kicks.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
