Football to Open 2012 Against Valdosta State

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University football program and the athletic department are excited to announce they will host the Valdosta State Blazers to open the 2012 football season. The game is tenatively scheduled for Saturday, September 1st, 2012.

Valdosta State is a perennial Division II football power having won NCAA Division II National Championships in 2004 and 2007 and finishing runner-up in 2002 to Grand Valley State University. The Blazers are currently ranked No. 10 in the latest AFCA Top 25 Poll. Valdosta State is a member institution of the Gulf South Conference.

SVSU Head Coach Jim Collins and Athletic Director Mike Watson will be available for comment following the 4:00 PM "Herremans' Family Weight Room" Dedication today (Oct. 20).  The SVSU football team will also be in action tonight at 8:00 PM when they host Ashland University in the NCAA DII Game of the Week.  The game will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports, Fox Sports Detroit and Fox Sports Ohio.
