University Center, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team hosted the University of Findlay Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference match up and the fifth meeting between the two teams. The Cardinals (19-16) claimed a 4-1 victory over the Oilers (19-18) extending their win streak to five games.

Christopher Schmees (W, 2-2) started with two scoreless innings before allowing the lone Oiler run in the third inning. He would finish with 5 2/3 innings of work allowing one run and one hit while striking out three. Findlay's 1-0 lead didn't last long. SVSU answered with a run of their own in the third inning. Colin Cornwell reached on an error and scooted to second base before Reed Raymond doubled down the right field line that tied the game.

The only other runs that were scored came in the bottom of the fourth. Tucker Roe started things with a triple before scoring on an RBI single by Jaccar Watkins. Cornwell singled to put two runners on for Martin Money, who hit his own RBI single to make it 3-1. Raymond bounced into a double play next that did score a run but wiped the bases as SVSU extended their lead to three.

All four runs were slated against Oiler starter Ethan Mohr (L, 1-1) who pitched four innings. Five scoreless innings followed as the Cardinal bullpen got into a little bit of trouble with walks but left every runner on base. Schmees walked two before giving way to Thomas Shipley who walked the lone batter he saw in the sixth. Matt Montroy took over and got out of the inning. Montroy pitched 2/3 of an inning and walked two. Nolan Knauf (Sv, 1) took over with one out in the seventh and held it down for the rest of the game. Knauf recorded 2 2/3 innings as he struck out three and allowed one hit.

Roe recorded one hit to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. Cornwell had the only multi-hit day going 2-for-5 as he scored two runs and now has an eight-game hitting streak.
