SVSU lands five on All-GLIAC teams

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team had five student-athletes earn Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors, it was announced on Thursday following the conclusion of the regular season this past weekend. The Cardinals finished 21-26 overall and 10-14 in GLIAC play during the regular season. 

Landing First Team All-GLIAC honors were Hayden Jatczak and Hunter Merillat. Jatczak has appeared in 46 games this season for SVSU, primarily as the designated hitter. The Bay City, Mich., native hit .368 with four home runs and 43 RBIs. Jatczak also made eight appearances on the mound, pitching 32.2 innings and recording 35 strikeouts. Merillat split time as both a starting pitcher and relief pitcher for SVSU, posting a 3-3 record, 3.68 ERA, and striking out 55 batters. The sophomore made 16 appearances and pitched 46.0 innings. 

Austin Schweiger was named Second Team All-GLIAC. The St. Clair, Mich., native appeared in 43 games, hitting .329 with six home runs and 38 RBIs. The six home runs by the second baseman lead the Cardinals this season.

Earning Honorable Mention All-GLIAC for the Cardinals were Andrew Burke and Martin Money. Burke played in 45 games this year and hit .258 with 28 RBIs and three stolen bases. The senior also had a .933 fielding percentage. Money played in 43 games this season primarily at first base. The junior hit .331 with two home runs and 34 RBIs.
