Cardinals drop 5-2 contest to Crusaders

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Madonna University on Monday at the SVSU Baseball Complex.

The Cardinals record moves to 8-8 overall following the defeat.

Game Breakdown:

  • SVSU struck in the bottom of the first when Todd Paperd hit an RBI single and brought home Hayden Jatczak to make the score 1-0.
  • The Crusaders answered with runs in the top of the second and fourth innings to take a 2-1 lead. 
  • In the top of the fifth inning, Madonna scored three runs, with two coming from an RBI double. 
  • Martin Money reached on a fielder's choice that scored Reed Raymond and made it 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but SVSU was unable to get a rally started as Madonna held the Cardinals scoreless through the final four innings. 
  • On the mound, JJ Arbini got the start for SVSU, going 4.0 innings, allowing two runs, two hits, and recording one strikeout. He was relieved by Kameron Marnon (0-2) who ended up taking the loss.
