Cards drop series opener at #22 Wayne State, 2-0

DETROIT -- The Cardinal Baseball team hit the road to begin its final regular season series of the season on Friday, facing the #22 ranked Wayne State University Warriors. Saginaw Valley fell in Friday's contest by a final score of 2-0. 

The game was scoreless through 5 1/2 innings but WSU took a 1-0 lead after posting an unearned run in the home half of the 6th inning. 

The Warriors added another run in the bottom of the 8th, scoring on a groundout to make their lead 2-0. 

SVSU threatened in the top of the 9th inning, getting into scoring position, but nothing materialized and the Warriors finished-off the 2-0 win in Detroit. 

Adam Turner and Austin Koin had the only two hits for the visitors in the game while Joshua Riggs, Craig Wilson, Anthony Kania and Koin all reached base on a walk. 

Amani Godfrey (3-6) took the loss in the start, working 7.1 innings for the Cardinals. He struck-out six batters and walked four, allowing two runs (1 ER).  

Up Next...

The teams will return to action on Saturday (May 4) for a doubleheader in Detroit. There will be two seven-inning games, with the first beginning at 1:00 p.m.
