Cardinals fall in series finale to Parkside

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- The Cardinal Baseball team hosted Parkside on Sunday in the final game of the GLIAC series between the teams. The Rangers came out ahead in Sunday's game, finishing-off a 13-5 victory and sending the series final with the teams winning two games-apiece. 

The Rangers scoed two runs in the top of the 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead and the Cardinals notched a run in the home half of the 3rd when Craig Wilson had an RBI single to score Joshua Riggs, making the score 2-1. 

The big blow for the game came in the top of the 4th, as Parkside scored seven runs in the frame to take a 9-1 lead. 

Three more came the visitors' way in the 6th, pushing that lead to 12-1. 

The Cardinals scored three in the bottom of the 6th on a Seth Stratton sacrifice fly and two-RBI double from Jordan Swiss, trimming the deficit to 12-4. 

Swiss added an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th in response to a run from Parkside, but it was not near enough as the Rangers claimed a 13-5 victory. 

Swiss had two hits with three RBI, moving him to second on the all-time hits list with 228. He is just one hit shy of tying the all-time record, held by Greg Chapie. Wilson had a hit and and RBI while Stratton had an RBI on a sac fly. Riggs, Mitch Morley and Andrew Burke had a hit as well for the Cards.

Kyle Henigan (4-3) took the loss in the start, working 3.1 innings and allowing nine runs (8 ER) with a strikeout and five walks.

Saginaw Valley hits the road this upcoming weekend, playing at Wayne State in another four game series. First pitch for Friday's nine-inning game will be at 3:30 p.m. in Detroit.
