Pride takes both ends of GLIAC doubleheader over Cardinals

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Cardinal Baseball team rounded-out its four game series at Purdue Northwest on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Pride in Indiana. The Cardinals fell in a pair of close games in the doubleheader, dropping the first 3-1 before falling in game two by a 3-2 count.

Game 1

The Cardinals got on the board in the top of the 3rd inning in the contest, responding to a pair of PNW runs in the home half of the 2nd inning. That put the game's score at 2-1 in the home team's favor. Saginaw Valley got its run when Jordan Swiss drove-in Austin Koin on a grounder to the shortstop.

The Pride added another run in the 4th inning, making the lead 3-1. The score remained there, despite SVSU getting a runner to third in the 7th to try and put the pressure on and the final score would prove to be that same 3-1 count.

Anthony Kania was the only Cardinal with two hits, adding a double to the tally. Jordan Swiss had the team's only RBI while Austin Koin, Andrew Burke, Derrek Clyde and Adam Turner added a hit-apiece in the game.

Camden Dice took the loss on the mound, working all 6.0 innings. He allowed three runs on eight hits, striking-out four batters and walking two.

Game 2

The Pride took a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the 2nd inning but the Cardinals responded with a pair in the top of the 3rd to take the 2-1 lead. Those runs came via a Craig Wilson RBI fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly from Turner.

Purdue Northwest added solo runs in the home halves of the 4th and 6th innings, respectively, taking the lead at 3-2. That is where it stood for the remainder, as the Pride held the Cardinal bats in check and closed-out for the victory.

Swiss had two hits in four tries in the second game with a double. Kania and Turner added a double, with Turner getting an RBI. Clyde had the other Cardinal hit in game two.

Kyle Henigan went all 6.0 inning pitching for SVSU, taking the loss while allowing three runs (1 ER) on just four hits, striking-out four and walking one batter.
