Cardinals drop non-conference matchup to Blue Devils

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Saginaw Valley State University Baseball hosted the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Wednesday in a non-conference contest at the SVSU Baseball Complex. The Cardinals jumped out to an 8-3 lead after four innings of play, but couldn't hold-off LTU the rest of the way as the visitors claimed a 17-8 win. 

SVSU went for two runs in the 2nd inning and added four in the 3rd in response to a trio of Lawrence Tech runs. The Cards then scored twice in the home half of the 4th, making the score 8-3 in their favor. 

The Blue Devils had a big 6th inning, scoring 10 runs to take the lead with the score 13-8. They added two more in the 7th and the 9th, holding the Cardinals scoreless to claim the 17-8 victory. 

Adam Turner had two hits with a double and three RBI for the home team. Derrek Clyde and Craig Wilson each added a pair of hits as well, with Clyde posting an RBI and Wilson scoring twice. Collin Winters had an RBI while Austin Koin added two for the Cards.

Alex Millhisler got the start, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing six runs on nine hits, striking-out three batters and walking one. John Fantauzzo (2-1) took the loss, allowing three runs with a hit and walking two batters.

The Cardinals play at Northwood University in a four game series this upcoming weekend in Midland, Michigan. The first game will take place on Friday (Apr. 12) at 3:00 p.m.
